DMCA
printiloveyou.com exists because people love a small game made by someone else. That makes respecting creators part of the job, not an afterthought. If something on this site uses your work in a way you didn’t agree to, this page explains how to tell us and what we’ll do about it, following the notice-and-takedown process set out in the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.
Three Ways This Usually Goes
| Your situation | Best route |
|---|---|
| You’d like credit added, a link corrected or an image replaced | A short, informal email is enough. No legal paperwork needed. |
| You want material removed and prefer a formal record | Send a DMCA takedown notice as described below. |
| Something you provided was taken down and you think that was wrong | Send a counter-notice, also described below. |
All three go to the same address: [email protected].
Worth Considering First
Not every use of a work needs permission. U.S. law allows fair use, which can cover things like short quotations in a review, screenshots used to explain a game, or commentary and criticism. A formal notice should come from an honest belief that the use isn’t allowed by you, your representative or the law. If you’re unsure where your case falls, a conversation with an attorney is a good idea before filing.
What a Takedown Notice Must Contain
Put “DMCA Notice” in the subject line so it reaches the right inbox quickly. Section 512(c)(3) of the U.S. Copyright Act lists what a valid notice includes. In plain terms:
- Who owns the work. Your signature, physical or electronic, as the owner or as someone allowed to act for the owner. Your full legal name typed at the end of the email counts as an electronic signature.
- What was copied. Identify the original work. If a number of works are affected, a representative list is fine.
- Where we can find it. The full URL of every page on printiloveyou.com that contains the material, plus any detail that helps us locate it on the page.
- How to reach you. Your name, postal address, phone number and email address.
- Your good-faith belief. A statement that you honestly believe the use isn’t authorized by the owner, the owner’s agent or the law.
- Your sworn accuracy. A statement that the notice is accurate and, under penalty of perjury, that you are the owner or are authorized to act for the owner.
If any of these pieces is missing, we’ll write back to ask for it. That’s the most common reason a request takes longer than it needs to.
After We Receive It
- Check. We confirm the notice is complete and find the material you pointed to.
- Act. When the notice is valid, we remove the material or disable access to it promptly.
- Inform. If someone else supplied the material, we let them know it was removed and why, so they have a chance to respond.
- Confirm. We reply to you with what was done.
If Your Material Was Removed
Mistakes happen, and the law gives you a way to push back. Send a counter-notice to [email protected] with “DMCA Counter-Notice” in the subject line. It should include:
- your physical or electronic signature;
- a description of what was removed and the address where it appeared before;
- a statement, under penalty of perjury, that you believe in good faith the removal was a mistake or the material was misidentified;
- your name, address and phone number;
- your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal district court for your address, or, if you live outside the United States, any judicial district in which printiloveyou.com may be found;
- your agreement to accept legal papers from the person who sent the original notice.
Once we have a complete counter-notice, we pass it to the person who filed the takedown. If they don’t tell us within 10 to 14 business days that they’ve started a court case, the material may be put back.
Honesty Matters on Both Sides
Section 512(f) of the DMCA makes anyone who knowingly misrepresents that material infringes, or that it was removed by mistake, potentially liable for damages. Please make sure your notice or counter-notice reflects the facts.
Repeat Problems
If the same person repeatedly supplies material that infringes others’ rights, we will stop accepting contributions from them where appropriate.
Where to Write
Every copyright matter, formal or informal, goes to [email protected]. Complete notices are handled as quickly as we can manage.
